Karin Starr - 2009 Recipeient  of the Donald L. Lawson Award for Conservation Education

Karin Starr was the 2009 recipient of the Donald L. Lawson Award for Conservation Education.  Karin worked for the Hendricks County Surveyor's Office since 2006 in a various capacities.  In January of 2009 she was asked to assist with the Public Education and Particiaption Program.  Throughout 2009 Karin was the public face and contact for the Hendricks County Partnership for Water Quality at numerous events and schools.  Karin was involved in the Annual County-wide Spring Clean Up that consisited of 565 volunteers that cleaned up nearly 62.94 tons of trash.  She also participated in Ag Day, Grand Opening of Paw Park, the 4-H Fair, Demolition Derby, and a Poker Run educating residents and visitors of our communities of the importance of water quality.  She was presented with the Donald L. Lawson Award for Conservation Education at the 2010 SWCD Annual Meeting held January 19, 2010. Congratulations Karin on a job well done.

Mike Moore - 2009 Hendricks County Conservation Farmer of the Year

Mike Moore received the 2009 Hendricks County Conservation Farmer of the Year Award at the 2010 SWCD Annual Meeting held January 29, 2010.  His farming operation is divided 60-40 between corn, which is 60-70% no-till, and soybeans, which are 100% no-till.  He has built over 40 WASCOBs in 4 years and installed about 32 acres of grassed waterways in the last 5 years.  This year he tried oilseed radishes, cereal rye and wheat as cover crops on 25% of his ground.  Mike participates in the Conservation Reserve Program and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.  Congratulations Mike!

 

Name the Mascot Contest
 

Congratulations to Zachary Castetter from Central Elementary in Plainfield for naming our mascot.  Kipper the tree frog stands for "Keep It Pure Please Environment Rocks!"  He won a $100 savings bond.  Thanks to all of our participants and congratulations to all of the finalists
